Alcohol – the untreated disaster in our community

The impacts of alcohol in the community and our health services will be presented during this online webinar. We have invited Gastroenterology specialist, Dr Julian Rong to discuss the medical and social affects of alcohol and frustrations with community treatment uptake.  Addiction Medicine Specialist, Dr David Jacka will present on assessment and treatment options and how general practitioners can support patients to prevent relapse.

Learning outcomes:

  • Medication Assisted Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorder as the new standard of care
  • Know what medications, immediately post‐detoxification or while still drinking, are indicated and available for those with AUD
  • Know that peak treatment efficacy requires MAT, counselling, peer or group support and frequent physician monitoring
  • Recognise early signs of chronic liver disease
  • Describe what liver failure feels like
  • Be aware of local hospital support services
