Emerging business trends in primary care: Health reform and Change management

This is the first in our series of the education sessions focusing on Emerging business trends in primary care. This session is ideal for health care professionals, managers, and leaders who want to deepen their understanding of Health Reform updates while also learning effective change management strategies to create a positive and engaged team environment.

Join us for an in-depth education session covering insights arising from the latest changes to Health Reform, and what we can expect from the next raft of announcements, starting on November 1. We will explore the MyMedicare concept, why it was chosen, and its potential evolution over the next 2 to 5 years, including the blended payment system and Home Medicine Review access.

Speakers:

Mr Gary Smith AM – Health reform

Gary Smith has been involved in the management of health care practices for over 36 years. Gary is a past National President of the Australian Association of Practice Management and past President of the NSW Branch.

He was awarded a Life Membership to AAPM in recognition of his exceptional commitment and outstanding contribution at state and national levels. He is Chair, Quality Innovation Performance P/l (QIP), Quality Innovation Performance Consulting P/l (QIPC), Wentworth Healthcare

LUD (NBMPHN) and holds board directorships with Australian General Practice Accreditation Ltd (AGPAL) and General Practice Workforce Tasmania (GPW). He also sits on several advisory and working groups at the Commonwealth government level.

Gary is also on the Executive Board of the Asian Society for Quality in Health Care (ASQua) and is an Academic Director-Health Programs, for the University of New England Partnerships (UNEP). Gary is also an International Surveyor for the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) and was awarded the title ISQua Expert in 2017. He has been a Surveyor for AGPAL since its inception for over 27 years.

Ms Riley O’Hanlon – Change management 

Riley O’Hanlon has extensive experience in the comprehension, application and compliance of health care standards and their associated guidelines. Riley spent time serving as the AGPAL Client Liaison Officer for New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, which allowed her to build

knowledge of accreditation related topics such as clinical governance, infection control, human resource management, safety and quality, risk management, and cold chain management.

In her position as National Manager of QIP Consulting, Riley has gained extensive experience in development of standards, associated resources and templates, bespoke document creation and review, and she performs gap assessments for organisations across Australia.

Standards review and development are two of Riley’s passions, and she has been involved in, or has led, the development of several standards packages and pilot studies for organisations to develop internal quality frameworks for corporate organisations, as well as publicly available national standards frameworks.

Riley has spent most of her career in the medical industry, and has prior expertise in pathology. Mental health, multiculturalism, domestic violence and suicide prevention are personal topics of focus.

Her approach is supportive, patient and collaborative, and she has a firm focus on tailoring her services to the needs of the client in order to encourage lasting and continuous quality improvement.
