NEW Department of Health e-Learn Modules to support the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 Implementation

The Department of Health have developed a suite of resources to assist the Mental Health and Wellbeing workforce to understand the changes from the previous Mental Health Act 2014 and understand their obligations and responsibilities under this new legislation.

This information can be found on the Department’s dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 page: Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 | health.vic.gov.au

The 1st of September marked the commencement of the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.

This Act establishes the legislative foundations for Victoria’s new responsive and integrated mental health and wellbeing system. It was a key recommendation from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

Where the previous Mental Health Act 2014 mostly pertained to Designated Mental Health services, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act encompasses a larger scope of services, many for the first-time including community health and non-acute organisations, Non-Government Organisations and the primary health sector.

One of these resources to support the sector is an interactive eLearn package made up of several modules that will assist the workforce in interpreting various aspects of this new legislation and promote the vision of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health Service in achieving increased rights for consumers, their family, carers and friends to achieve the highest attainable standard of care.
