DESCRIPTION:This session will cover restrictive practice legislation for older people receiving Aged Care. There are many myths around the roles and responsibilities of the GP in Aged Care. The session will clarify the prescriber roles and responsibilities around psychotropic medications and chemical restraint. It will also explore other types of restrictive practice and explore how you can support aged care providers to meet legislative requirements and minimise the inappropriate use of restrictive practices. Learning outcomes:  Explain the legislative requirements of restrictive practice for providers. Describe psychotropic medications used in Aged Care, including informed consent, review, prescribing and deprescribing. Speaker information:  Loren deVries is the Assistant Commissioner, Senior Practitioner Behaviour Support, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. Loren is a Nurse Practitioner (Older Person) and brings with her years of experience and clinical expertise in supporting the older person particularly people living with dementia and individuals experiencing changed behaviours. Megan Cox is Director (Strategy and Engagement) of the Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices Unit, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. Megan is a Registered Nurse and has extensive experience working as a clinician in a range of roles in the aged care sector This event is RACGP approved for 1.5 hours of Educational Activities
