DESCRIPTION:From mid-2026, patients will access many test results at the same time as their GP. Join NWMPHN and RACGP to discuss how should you respond when they ask ChatGPT to explain them? Your patient has just received pathology results in My Health Record and, before their next appointment, asked ChatGPT what it means. This is already happening in consulting rooms across Australia, and the new Better and Faster Access reforms will make it more common. From mid-2026, pathology and diagnostic imaging reports will be shared to My Health Record by default, with patients able to access them at the same time as their GP. This session covers what those changes mean in practice, how to have productive conversations with patients who arrive AI-informed, and how GPs can help their patients use these tools thoughtfully. Speaker - Dr Janice Tan Dr Janice Tan is a practising General Practitioner and digital health leader passionate about transforming healthcare delivery. As General Manager of Clinical Innovation at Bupa Australia, she leads initiatives that leverage emerging technologies and innovative models of care to democratise access to quality healthcare for both clinicians and consumers. She continues to practice as a GP across NSW with clinical expertise spanning women's health, paediatrics, and mental health, maintaining frontline insight while driving digital health strategy. This dual perspective allows her to advocate for solutions that genuinely improve workflows, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance patient outcomes. Beyond Bupa, she contributes to shaping Australia's digital health and primary care landscape with the RACGP and Central Eastern Sydney PHN, ensuring digital health solutions are safe, equitable, and designed with the needs of both patients and clinicians at the centre. Learning outcomes: Describe the key changes introduced by the Better and Faster Access reforms. Explain how and when patients can access their pathology and diagnostic imaging results in My Health Record. Identify practical strategies for proactive patient conversations when ordering tests. Recognise the opportunities and limitations of AI health tools and apply a practical framework for consulting with AI-informed patients. RACGP: RACGP CPD: 1 hour - Educational Activity
