Epidemic Thunderstorm Asthma Forecast HIGH – 18 December 2021

The Chief Health Officer has issued an epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast of HIGH Saturday 18 December 2021 for the East Gippsland, North Central, North East and Northern Country districts. This means there is an increased chance of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event occurring.

Epidemic thunderstorm asthma is where a large number of people suddenly develop asthma symptoms over a short period of time and is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high pollen levels and a certain type of thunderstorm. The Bureau of Meteorology works closely with the department to forecast the risk of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event.
