Epidemic Thunderstorm Asthma Forecast HIGH – 2 December 2021

A HIGH risk forecast for epidemic thunderstorm asthma has been issued for Gippsland as well as other districts across Victoria.

The Victorian Chief Health Officer has issued the forecast which means there is an increased chance of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event occurring.

Epidemic thunderstorm asthma is where a large number of people suddenly develop asthma symptoms over a short period of time and is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high pollen levels and a certain type of thunderstorm.

The Bureau of Meteorology works closely with the Victorian Department of Health to forecast the risk of an epidemic thunderstorm asthma event.
