Free training for aged care staff in mental health first aid

Many older Australians experience mental health problems.

Older Person Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training will teach staff in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) practical skills to support an older person with a mental health problem.

Gippsland PHN is facilitating free training courses for lifestyle staff, personal care attendants, nurses and management. Participants will learn practical first aid skills including how to:

  • Recognise common mental health problems in older people
  • Provide initial help using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
  • Seek appropriate professional help, and
  • Respond in a crisis situation

The first round of training is complete with the second round to be held in Sale, Leongatha and Warragul in April and May. See details in the flyers below:
