Thirty-one years ago – on 17 May, 1990 – the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination.
LGBTQIA+ people responding to a Gippsland PHN survey in 2021 were twice as likely to not have a usual doctor or healthcare provider; 25% compared to 12% of all repondents (see the Health Needs Assessment).
People are encouraged to join workplaces, schools and organisations in Australia by going rainbow on 17 May and help make the world a better place for LGBTQIA+ people.
All funds raised for the event go to support LGBTQIA+ Australians.
