Aged Care Reform Update for GPs is a 3-part webinar series. Session One will focus on the New Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.
The new strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, including a new focus on clinical care and food/nutrition, will take effect from 1 November 2025 under the new Aged Care Act. While the standards are designed for aged care providers and their staff, General Practitioners (GPs) are integral to delivering high-quality care to older people, making an understanding of the new requirements, particularly regarding clinical care, crucial for providing effective and person-centred services.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify changes to the new Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.
- Understand the role GPs play in the new Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.
- Demonstrate how to apply the new Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards in practice.
Speaker Information:
Dr. Mandy Callary is a geriatrician from South Australia. She graduated in medicine from Flinders University in 1987 and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, specialising in Geriatric Medicine in 2001.
Mandy considers herself to be primarily a clinician – with her clinical subspeciality areas in cognitive disorders, delirium, frailty, and clinical governance. As a geriatrician, she has provided medical assessment and care to older people wherever they be, including in their homes, in residential aged care facilities, and in the hospital and wider healthcare systems.
Mandy also values her 20-year experience as an aged care board member, as it has provided her considerable insights into how the aged care sector operates, how it conducts itself, and how, in her new role as Chief Clinical Advisor, she could best support the sector to improve the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of older people receiving aged care services.
