Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affect more than 180,000 Australians and require ongoing, coordinated care. General practitioners are essential to effective, multidisciplinary management of these chronic conditions, but many report limited training and confidence in this area.
Workshop 3 of the National IBD GP Education series focuses on equipping GPs with tools and strategies to guide patients through long-term disease management.
In this online workshop, you will deepen your knowledge and clinical confidence through a series of specialised, scenario-based learning activities focused on long-term care and patient-centred support for individuals living with IBD.
Topics include:
- Key components of effective monitoring, follow-up, and review of IBD patients in general practice
- The importance of delivering comprehensive preventive care, including screening and risk mitigation
- Strategies for managing symptoms and acute flares, with emphasis on medication adherence, lifestyle modification, and behavioural change to support long-term wellbeing
Led by a multidisciplinary panel of GPs, gastroenterologists, and educators, the session features case-based learning, peer discussion, and practical tools aligned with national clinical guidelines.
