Informed consent model for gender-affirming hormone therapy – Session 2 – Murray PHN

This webinar aims to empower GPs with knowledge on how to consult transgender or gender diverse patients who are seeking hormone therapy to transition and affirm their gender.

Presenters:

Dr Haris Noor, a GP at Bendigo Community Health Services whose special interests include men’s health, LGBTQI+ health and transgender medicine. Dr Noor helps run the Men’s Health Clinic and Gender Clinic at Bendigo Community Health Services.

Dr Lisa Watson has been a GP for 46 years mainly working in rural and remote regions including almost 3 years in Antarctica. Lisa was the first GP and second medical practitioner to transition in Australia. She currently works at Gateway Health in Wodonga.

Learning outcomes:

• Outline diagnostic criteria for gender incongruence and the differential diagnoses.

• Outline the Informed Consent Model of Care which places GPs central to gender care.

• Develop competency in gender history-taking, mental health assessment, and medical assessment.

• Describe gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and other treatments for transitioning.

• Describe medico-legal aspects of GAHT in adolescents and adults.
