Lived Experience Webinar: A Cornerstone of Mental Health and Wellbeing Reform

This Webinar will provide an introduction to lived experience, including its core values and principles, as well as an overview of the Lived Experience workforce’s role in reform. It will explain the distinction between having lived experience and working in an identified Lived Experience role.

It will highlight the value that lived experience positions bring to organisations, particularly in strengthening community engagement, enhancing service design, and supporting recovery-oriented practice.

The session will also offer guidance on preparing for and supporting a Lived/Living Experience Workforce (LLEW). This will include information on organisational readiness, available resources, grant opportunities, discipline-specific supervision, and strategies for integrating Lived Experience roles into multidisciplinary teams.

A Q&A panel featuring LLEW members from Gippsland will give attendees the opportunity to hear real-world insights. The panel will present diverse perspectives across mental health (MH), alcohol and other drugs (AOD), suicide prevention (SP), and family violence, and will include both consumer and carer viewpoints.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the history of the Lived Experience movement and why it is the key to mental health and health wellbeing reform
  • Identify the benefits of lived experience expertise and involvement
  • Recall the available support and advice for organisations looking to establish a Lived/Living Experience Workforce
