Medical therapies for endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding – what GPs need to know – RACGP

This Webinar is designed to enhance GPs’ knowledge, competence, and confidence in selecting and initiating contemporary medical therapies for endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding in primary care. It will review some of the recent hormonal medications added to the prescribing benefit scheme.

  • Outline the use of hormonal medication in endometriosis associated pain and heavy menstrual bleeding.
  • Identify appropriate patients who may benefit from hormonal treatment options.
  • Discuss how to counsel patients effectively using shared decision making on expected benefits, risks and contraceptive implications

Dr Sara Whitburn
Chair, RACGP Sexual Health Medicine Specific Interest Group and Medical Director, Sexual Health Victoria

Dr Sara Whitburn (she/her) is the Medical Director at Sexual Health Victoria and the Chair of the Sexual Health Special Interest Group of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She was awarded her RACGP fellowship in 2009. Sara has diplomas in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Family Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching. Sara completed a 6-month Academic GP registrar term and has worked in general practices and family planning clinics in the UK and Melbourne. She has specialised in Sexual and Reproductive Health since 2008 and is interested in genital health, menopause, and long-acting contraceptive provision and training in general practice.
