Endometriosis Awareness Month highlights improved access to care in Gippsland

Endometriosis affects an estimated 14% of Australians, yet diagnosis still takes an average of 6.5 years. This highlights the importance of improving awareness, reducing delays and ensuring access to appropriate care. Endometriosis Awareness Month provides an opportunity to educate, advocate and support people living with the condition.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing a range of symptoms including chronic abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, bloating, fatigue, infertility, anxiety and depression.

The Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic (EPPC) is addressing a significant women’s health need in Gippsland, offering free appointments for people experiencing endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain.

Funded by the Australian Government and commissioned by Gippsland PHN, the clinic is delivered by Latrobe Community Health Service and forms part of a national network expanding access to specialised care.

The Gippsland EPPC is already making a meaningful difference, helping to improve access to timely, coordinated care and supporting earlier identification and management of symptoms.

The Gippsland EEPC offers:

  • Improved access to diagnostic, treatment and referral services
  • Symptom management for perimenopause and menopause
  • Increased access to allied health and support services
  • Inclusive and culturally safe care for all patients
  • Strengthened workforce expertise in women’s health

Patients do not require a diagnosis or referral to be treated at the clinic.

Bookings can be made by telephoning Latrobe Community Health Service on 1800 242 696.
