Suicide prevention tender opportunity

Gippsland PHN will be releasing a public Request for Proposal in July seeking a proven performer in suicide prevention to develop a sustainable postvention model for Gippsland from the 9 September 2024 to the 30 June 2025.

A non-mandatory online Applicant Information Session will be held via Zoom at 11.00am on 22 July, 2024 to discuss the tender specifications and provide an opportunity for applicants to ask questions. Participants can register to attend here.

Postvention is a form of suicide prevention that involves an integrated systematic response after a suicide and is achieved by providing activities that support people and communities impacted by the suicide and reduce the risk of further suicides occurring. Those in the community who are impacted are identified and offered appropriate support. This may involve referral for counselling, the provision of relevant resources, group debriefing, a community information session or other education.

Postvention Coordination can include the activation of a collaborative postvention response group that ensures that there are no gaps in response and similarly that there is no duplication in response. Through this, individuals in distress can be recognised and supported, those in leadership positions can feel more confident and supported in their response and communication, and the possibility of further suicide is reduced.

In addition, collaboratively developed Postvention Protocols can have a broader preventative reach in strengthening the capacity of local communities and the service sector to pre-empt risk at a place-based level and direct resources in a safe and timely manner.

In Gippsland, organisations and community members have expressed a need for support in coordinating a postvention response.
