Behind every statistic is a man you’ve probably met. He comes in about his back, or his blood pressure and never mentions that he’s stopped sleeping or pulled away from the people close to him. Often it traces back to what he was taught about being a man: stay string, don’t make a fuss, don’t ask for help. Men present differently, disclose less and leave before they get the support they need. You’re often the first point of contact, and sometimes the only one.
General Practitioners/Registrars, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists and Nurses working in Primary Care are invited to join Gippsland PHN and the Movember Institute for dinner and to hear from health professionals and men who have lived experience of mental health, in their own words.
On the night participants will:
- Hear from health professionals and men with lived experience of mental health, in their own words
- Understand how ideas about “being a man” shape the way men experience their health
- Walk away with practical conversation starters for engaging men
