From 13 April 2026, after-hours health advice for Gippsland will be available through the Commonwealth Department of Health, Disability and Ageing funded service, 1800MEDICARE.
- 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422) is a free 24/7 service where callers can speak with a registered nurse who can help determine the most appropriate care option. Depending on symptoms, the nurse may:
- Provide self-care advice to be followed safely at home
- Advise to see a GP, pharmacist or another health professional
- Arrange a phone or video consultation with a doctor where appropriate
- Advise to attend a hospital emergency department
Additional after-hours options for people in Gippsland continue to include:
- Victorian Virtual Emergency Department – a free state-wide service that connects patients online with emergency doctors and nurses for urgent but not life-threatening conditions
