Accessing after-hours care in Gippsland from 13 April 2026

From 13 April 2026, after-hours health advice for Gippsland will be available through the Commonwealth Department of Health, Disability and Ageing funded service, 1800MEDICARE.

  • 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422) is a free 24/7 service where callers can speak with a registered nurse who can help determine the most appropriate care option. Depending on symptoms, the nurse may:
  • Provide self-care advice to be followed safely at home
  • Advise to see a GP, pharmacist or another health professional
  • Arrange a phone or video consultation with a doctor where appropriate
  • Advise to attend a hospital emergency department

Additional after-hours options for people in Gippsland continue to include:

  • Chemist Care Now – participating pharmacies may provide treatment for some common conditions or resupply certain medicines without needing to see a GP first. Find participating pharmacies here.
