Gippsland PHN Doctors in Secondary Schools Program (DiSS program)

Students need good health and wellbeing to learn, thrive and reach their full potential – in school and in life.  For some students, accessing a General Practitioner (GP) can be challenging for a range of reasons.

The DiSS program, funded by the Department of Education, aims to provide equitable, accessible and professional primary health care services to students in secondary schools. The program complements existing student wellbeing programs aimed at improving health literacy and encouraging preventive health.

Program objectives are to:

  • make primary health care more accessible to students
  • provide assistance to young people to identify and address any health problems early
  • reduce the pressure on working parents and community-based GPs.

In the Gippsland region, the DiSS program has been servicing nine schools since late 2017. Since then and up to 31 December 2024, there have been a total of 5,951 appointments made to see the ‘DiSS GP’ across these Gippsland schools.  The program has developed into an integral part of school life for students accessing the DiSS service.  Quality and accessible health care is provided by dedicated health professionals, experienced in working with youth.  School staff who support the program and the general practice staff who deliver the program, have developed a collaborative team approach.

There is currently one vacancy for a general practice in the Gippsland region to deliver primary care services to a secondary school.

Warragul Regional College is situated in West Gippsland.  Warragul Regional College has enrolment numbers of approximately 800 students and has whole-of-school year levels on their campus, which provides all students across year levels with access to a DiSS GP and Practice Nurse on the nominated school day for a DiSS clinic.

If your general practice is community and youth-centred and would like more information on how to become involved in the delivery of general practice services into the Doctors in Secondary Schools Program, please email:   Diss@gphn.org.au.

Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic providers in Gippsland

Gippsland PHN intended to open an Expression of Interest for local general practices interested in establishing an Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic (EPPC) on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA).

There are currently no EPPCs in the Gippsland PHN region. On 9 February 2025, the Australian Government announced an expansion of the EPPC program over three years (2025-26 to 2027-28). The expansion will include funding for 11 new clinics, including one in the Gippsland PHN region, bringing the total number of clinics nationally to 33.

EPPCs work to improve the provision of diagnosis, treatment and management of endometriosis and pelvic pain, and the treatment and management of perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

This funding targets general practices in the Gippsland PHN region that deliver services with a focus on women’s health, including endometriosis, pelvic pain management, perimenopause and menopause.

Gippsland PHN can nominate up to two general practices through this process, and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing will then decide which clinic is successful.

Funding of up to $256,667.00 (excluding GST) per annum over three years will be available for the successful provider following the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s assessment process. Gippsland PHN will then contract the provider, coordinate reporting, and manage other requirements associated with the funding.

The EOI  will be opened from Thursday 17 July 2025 through to COB Thursday 24 July 2025. For more information, please visit our Procurement Opportunities webpage: https://gphn.org.au/procurement-and-tendering/commissioning-opportunities/

If you have any queries relating to this EoI please email the procurement@gphn.org.au
