After-hours services

Have you had an unexpected medical issue after-hours?

If it’s not an emergency and you don’t need to go to hospital but still require medical advice, there are options available.

After-hours medical services treat all kinds of patients with all kinds of injuries and illnesses when they can’t see their regular GP. It may be after work, or late at night, or on the weekend. It could be your children, your family or a friend who needs advice.

After-hours medical services are available at any time that your regular doctor’s office is closed and you urgently need to speak to a healthcare professional.

Where to go for advice:

1800MEDICARE

1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422) is a free 24/7 service where callers can speak with a registered nurse who can help determine the most appropriate care option. Depending on symptoms, the nurse may:

  • Provide self-care advice to be followed safely at home
  • Advise to see a GP, pharmacist or another health professional
  • Arrange a phone or video consultation with a doctor where appropriate
  • Advise to attend a hospital emergency department

Urgent Care Clinics

Urgent Care Clinics (UCCs) provide care for people with conditions that require urgent attention but not an emergency response.

Two clinics in Warragul and Moe are supporting nearby hospital emergency departments by providing GP-led care for urgent but non-life-threatening conditions such as mild infections, fractures and burns. They also offer pathology and imaging services onsite or nearby.

Care is available to anyone with or without a Medicare card, at no cost to the patient. (Costs may be required for imaging, pathology and other services).
