The Australian Government is investing in a new Medicare Mental Health Centre for Gippsland, to be located in Sale and expected to open in 2027. The new centre will strengthen access to free mental health care and support for people across the Wellington local government area.
Medicare Mental Health Centres provide a welcoming place where people can access mental health information, support and services without needing a referral or appointment. Services are designed to support people experiencing mental health distress or moderate to severe mental health challenges, as well as their families and carers.
Gippsland PHN is working with government, service providers, people with lived and living experience, carers and the broader community to support the establishment of the new Medicare Mental Health Centre in Sale in 2027.
The centre presents an important opportunity to strengthen Gippsland’s mental health system and ensure local services continue to meet the needs of our communities.
It will provide collaborative, multidisciplinary mental health services, including immediate and short to medium-term treatment and support for people experiencing mental health distress or moderate to severe mental health challenges.
