A practice manager “manages reception like a pro” by creating clear systems, setting high service standards, and leading with consistency. This includes ensuring efficient workflows, confident handling of patient interactions and billing issues, maintaining accurate data, and providing regular coaching and feedback—resulting in a smooth, professional, and patient-focused front desk.
Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate effective front desk communication by answering phone calls promptly, applying professional phone etiquette, and delivering high-quality customer service in all patient interactions.
- Accurately manage administrative processes by updating patient demographics, identifying and resolving Medicare rejections, and maintaining efficient and compliant reception workflows.
- Apply professional and organisational standards by maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, and actively participating in performance appraisals to support continuous improvement and accountability.

Wendy is well known for her practical and informative approach to supporting the management of general practice, she has a long history in general practice spanning 27 years. She has worked as a receptionist, Practice Nurse and for the past 15 years has worked as a Practice manager in a large, 24 GP practice in Gisborne Victoria.
She is passionate about General Practice and has a thorough understanding of all facets, with a special interest in MBS, Chronic Disease management and the implementation of new initiatives into her practice.
While working full-time, she still takes the opportunity to meet and work with new practice managers, guiding them through the complexities of General Practice.
She has been working as an education consultant since 2017.
Wendy will be presenting from the Traralgon Gippsland PHN Office, and will be live streamed to Gippsland PHN hosted venues in Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi
