Creating a healthier, better connected Gippsland.

Practice Incentives Program Quality Improvement Incentive – 2023-24 report

Practice Incentives Program (PIP) Quality Improvement (QI) Incentive aims to support general practice while encouraging continuous improvement and better outcomes for patients.

This PIP QI Incentive is a payment to general practices that participate in quality improvement activities that improve patient outcomes and deliver best practice care.

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) has released the Practice Incentives Program Quality Improvement (PIP QI) 2023-24 Report.

This report provides a benchmark for Gippsland alongside the rest of Australia for the 10 Quality Improvement Measures (QIMs).

The report highlights the exceptional efforts providers in Gippsland have been making in improving health outcomes in the region.

Some key report findings:

  • Gippsland is ranked fourth for recording HbA1c results in type 1 diabetes patients, and third for type 2 and undefined diabetes
  • Gippsland is the second-highest ranking PHN for recording blood pressure in patients with diabetes
  • Gippsland is exceeding the national average for up-to-date cervical screening, ranked fourth.

  • Gippsland is the third-highest ranking PHN for the proportion of patients immunised against influenza in the 65+ age group (QIM 4), those with diabetes (QIM 5) and those with COPD (QIM 6). However, influenza immunisation rates in these cohorts have decreased since 2021 results

  • Gippsland is ranked as the fifth-lowest PHN for patients with a healthy BMI and the sixth-highest for patients with an obese BMI.

The results demonstrate a clear focus on improving population health in Gippsland. However, there are some clear focus areas to further benchmark Gippsland as one of the best regions for healthcare in Australia.

Gippsland PHN would like to thank all Gippsland general practices participating in the National PIP-QI program, with your contribution to health in the region evident in the statistics above.

Let’s continue to work together to achieve a measurably healthier Gippsland.
