Training opportunity: supporting people experiencing homelessness

Gippsland PHN are seeking expressions of interest from Latrobe General Practices who would like to further their knowledge about delivering safe and inclusive services for those experiencing homelessness, or at risk of homelessness.

The opportunity will include two activities:

  • Participation in a training needs analysis to understand if there are gaps to implementing homelessness inclusive practices which may include in-depth interviews with staff throughout September/October 2024.
  • Training to address the gaps which could include homelessness educational content such as care coordination, confidentiality, clinical protocols, cultural safety and patient histories.

The training may be delivered online, face to face or via a blended approach based on the needs of the participating general practices in Latrobe and will be delivered throughout September 2024 to February 2025. This opportunity is available to all general practices in the Latrobe Local Government Area (LGA).

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased housing prices and Gippsland stakeholders are reporting a significant influx of people presenting as homeless due to housing availability and affordability. The severity of this appears to be escalating.
